Music Industry
The music industry consists of the companies and individuals that make money by creating and selling music. Among the many individuals and organizations that operate within the industry are: the musicians who compose and perform the music; the companies and professionals who create and sell recorded music eg: (music publishers, producers, recording studios, record labels, retailers, online music stores, performance rights organisers). Also those who present live music performances (booking agents, scouts, promoters, music venues, road crew), and professionals who assist musicians in their careers( talent managers, business managers, entertainment http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_industry
Broadcasting music is just as important as producing it using music channels, music radio's and other types of media. One of the major factors of media institutions is the protection of music and publishing within the ownership of music.
One institution I have researched is PRS.
PRS
PRS is a site dedicated to organizing music, making available copyrighted music and distributing royalties to them fairly. They help licence performing music events, businesses and provides music licences for broadcast and online access. It also licences recorded media for example: DVD, CD, Vinyl and DJ Mixes.
The site also helps promote people who are song writers or publishers and want to be established within the music industry. This can help many in promoting unsigned bands or artists too, so there are more official music promoters to help them with their career.
The site also includes an affiliated society section. This means that any global network can obtain music and gain a licence for music to be used, reaffirming copyrighted permissions.
It is important to recognise institutions that provide these opportunities, so that new music can be delivered to audiences, artists can be established, businesses can cooperate and promote music for their advertisements.
This information has also helped me in thinking about the certain details and factors that not only make up the music industry as a whole and the process of establishing certain aspects of music such as new artists, tracks or events. But how the music's ownership and publishing can influence its industry and how significant music is to audiences and businesses alike.
