Journal 1

After considering my options and researching music video codes and conventions as well as my two main genres, I believe an Indie Folk/ Pop song (depending on what song I will choose) would be best to create a music video for. This is because it can be low budget, which is advantageous to my limitations and availabilities of equipment, cast, locations, storyboarding and outlook of the whole music video. The locations are easy to film; either being in a park, forest or city area, as well as lighting and costume but this depends on the song. Special effects are not necessarily required though with my prior editing skills I can use them if I want to, in order to create a certain look or filtering layer (this can be used for an Indie Pop song). The genre appeals to a diverse audience but mainly to young adults/teens, of which I can relate to. In addition to this I can incorporate themes, narratives and symbols of situations that the audience can be involved in, (however this depends on the song and its lyrics or original themes behind it). The Pop side of the genre, is primarily how the song sounds and with the use of editing I can place some elements of the Pop genre, however the pop side of the music is only minor compared to the main Indie and Folk part. But, I need to find a song that my performer can easily lip sync to and the conventions of the Indie genre is included.
